Hendon Semiconductors has announced the release of the IES5528, phase control and triac triggering integrated circuit to replace the OM5428. As with the OM5428, it is also a suitable replacement for the TCA280B and other similar phase control circuits. The main feature of the IES5528 is that it provides negative triac gate pulses that avoid the insensitive triac trigger quadrants. This feature significantly decreases the required supply current thus reducing dissipation in the supply resistor. The external configurability of the IES5528 also makes it suitable for a wide variety of mains power control applications. For example, the IES5528 can be used as a soft start motor controller to eliminate the effect of high starting torque, synchronous On/Off switching and time proportional temperature control. Various application diagrams are available from the datasheet. In general, the IES5528 provides a cost effective power and speed control solution for various kitchen and home applications including light dimmers and home heating and cooling. Hendon Semiconductors has recently been granted patent which, forms part of the company’s portfolio covering heater temperature control solutions. The patent (Patent no: 7,256,371) granted earlier in 2008 in the United States describes a method of controlling the temperature of an AC mains powered element exhibiting positive temperature coefficient (PTC) characteristics therefore eliminating the need of a separate sensor. The technology is implemented in the design of the OM1682A, precision triac control thermostat and IES5541A, relay drive with contact protection integrated circuits. “The granting of this patent gives further strength to our position as we pursue commercialisation opportunities to our target markers from our R&D programs”, said Steven Fraser, Manager of Business and Product Development at Hendon Semiconductors. Hendon Semiconductors Pty. Ltd. and NXP Semiconductors have recently signed a supply agreement in which Hendon Semiconductors will supply a range of components exclusively to NXP for sale to their customers globally. Under the supply agreement, which commences in 2009, Hendon Semiconductors will supply integrated circuits, which have been designed and tested at Hendon in South Australia, to NXP for the next three years. The agreement also provides the opportunity to further extend the range of components sold by Hendon Semiconductors to NXP. The agreement also commits the companies to move from supplying finished goods parts to a wafer supply model where tested silicon wafer will be supplied, providing improved logistics flexibility for both companies. Hendon Semiconductors the manufacturer of the OM1654A and the IES5521A has recently released the IES5523A. It is a derivative of the IES5521A with a timeout indicator signal. The IES5523A is the new addition to the popular OM1654A and IES5521A used in hair styling tools application. It features excellent temperature control with minimal external components; a time-out for automatic shut-off and now with a timeout indicator signal, it provides a mean of indication that the appliance is now in time-out mode. This signal can be used to drive an external LED circuit to indicate either ON/ OFF when it is in time-out mode. An easy flick of the mains switch will reset the timer. This range of integrated circuits is also well suited for use in small home appliances application where accurate temperature control is essential and a time-out timer is required as the appliance safety requirement. Hendon Semiconductors is proud to announce a new addition to its 2-wire bus buffer range of products with the release of the IES5507, buffered 4-channel 2-wire bus switch. In addition, the IES5507 allows each of the branches to be impedance isolated from all others, thus allowing a total of five branches of 2-wire bus with the maximum specified load. The four outputs of the IES5507 may be also independently enabled in any combination as determined by the contents of the programmable control register. Furthermore, the IES5507 is suitable to be used with the new I2C-bus Fm+ mode with a 1MHz operating frequency, making it ideal to be used to interface between buses of different operating frequencies. The IES5507 is a suitable drop-in pin compatible with other common 4 channel I2C bus switch. The IES5507 is available in standard SO-16 RoHS compliant package. Hendon Semiconductors expands its range of its two-wire bus buffer with the introduction of the IES5502, fast dual bi-directional bus buffer with hot insertion logic. The hot insertion logic with pre-charge feature prevents data corruption on the bus during I/O card insertion into live backplanes. The features of the IES5502 make them well suited for the computing or networking systems such as backplane applications where there are differences in voltage levels and speeds. The unique function of the IES5502 provides one of the fastest response times of such bi-directional buffers without the use of Rise Time Accelerators (RTA). The RTA when combined with low noise margins may cause glitches outside of the I2C specification. Similarly to the IES5501, the IES5502 is a fully I2C compliant bus buffer and supports a wide range of other two-wire bus systems including fast modes (operation in excess of 1MHz). NOW RELEASED Hendon Semiconductors recently released the IES5505 and IES5515, a simple isolating buffer for two-wire bus system. With the growth of application adopting the two-wire bus system, this is the solution for a simple application where a fully-featured bus buffer is not required. The only difference between the IES5505 and IES5515 is its maximum pull-down capability. The IES5505 has 4mA is suitable for I2C (both standard and fast modes), PMBUS and SMBUS. The IES5515 with a pull-down capability of 30mA is ideal for FM+ application as well. The DIRECTION pin on the ICs allow Master devices to be placed on both side of the buffer by allowing the uni-directional clock to be reversed. Both IES5505 and IES5515 also features an ENABLE which allows different section of the bus to be isolated and brought on-line successively. By combining the low cost price of IES5505/IES5515 compared to other bus buffers, a simple cost-effective solution can be easily achieved. The IES5541A relay driver with contact protection integrated circuit from Hendon Semiconductors is now fully released. It is capable of extending relay contact lifetime and delivering higher relay reliability. The function of the IES5541A is to control the relay switching at mains zero crossing and firing a triac connected across the relay contacts for a duration of 8 half-mains cycle each time the relay turns on when whenever arcing is detected during relay turns off. In-house testing shows relay contacts electrical lifetime extends to over 1 million switches. The IES5541A and its contact protection circuit are compatible with most power relays. Ideal for AC mains temperature control applications where high currents are constantly switched and excessive EMI is to be avoided.
